How can you help me when nothing I do seems to work? 


Generally we try to do everything we can to fix a problem.  Then there comes a time when we run out of ideas.  That’s where therapy can come into play.

But everyone says I’m not trying hard enough and I am just trying to get someone to tell me what to do.  Could that be true?

Both you and I know no one has tried harder than you.  Besides who can determine how hard is hard? And honestly, a good therapist doesn’t tell you what to do, they help you problem solve.

I need help managing my anxiety and depression.  Can you help me with that? 

Yes.  I help you to find ways to manage these issues until they subside and cause less interference in your life.

I am struggling with relationships whether it’s at home or work.  Why can’t I just fix them?

Many people find that they have done all they know how to do to lessen conflict in their life.  Sometimes it helps to have a 3rd party looking in.  It’s like being in a burning building and all you can see is the smoke and flames.  Your therapist stands on the outside guiding you out or if necessary comes in to help you out.

I don’t think I have a drug or alcohol problem so why is this worrying me?

Therapy can be a way to look at the issue.  Maybe the question is how much do drugs or alcohol interfere with your work, your family, and/or your social life? Therapy can help you assess that.

But what if people think it means I’m crazy if I see a therapist?  

It is the people who know something is wrong and refuses to deal with it that drives them to greater anxiety and other mental health issues.  It is the healthy person who sees there’s a problem and finds solutions.

If my family has problems with me as I work on myself can you help us? 

Yes.  Everyone in your household is impacted by this radical change in you.  I work with individuals, couples, and families as they make these adjustments.

How long will the process of counseling take?

The initial session is generally done in one 90-minute to two-hour session. After that clients may come weekly or once every two weeks.  The sessions may be 45 minutes, 75 minutes, or 90 minutes long depending on client needs.

The duration of therapy can vary from 2 months to 2 years. However, because each individual heals at their own rate, I encourage my clients to set goals and assess their progress during the counseling process.

Is your counseling limited to only the issues I come in with? 

No. Therapy issues encompass all aspects of human life. People often find that after they resolve an issue many other emotional and relational issues may arise.
